Background
The Honorable Immigration Judge Maria Ubarri earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1988 from Boston University, a Juris Doctor in 1991 from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, and a Master of Laws in 1994 from Georgetown University Law Center. Before her appointment, she served as a state trial court judge in Fajardo and Humacao, Puerto Rico (2010-2020), practiced law privately in Humacao and San Juan (1995-2010), worked as a federal policy advisor for the Governor of Puerto Rico (1994-1995), and served as a legislative assistant for the Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico in the U.S. House of Representatives (1993).
