Background
The Honorable Immigration Judge Akash Vyas was appointed as an immigration judge in March 2026. He earned a Bachelor of Science in 2004 from Purdue University and a Juris Doctor in 2007 from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. From 2007 to 2023, he served as an assistant state's attorney with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in Chicago, and from January 2024 to February 2026 as an assistant chief counsel with the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security, in Chicago. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar.
