Background
The Honorable Immigration Judge Garry D Malphrus earned a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in 1989 and a Juris Doctor (Order of the Coif) in 1993, both from the University of South Carolina. Before entering the immigration courts he served as chief counsel on U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee subcommittees (1997-2001) and as Associate Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council (2001-2005). He served as an immigration judge in Arlington from 2005 to 2008, was appointed to the Board of Immigration Appeals in August 2008, and was later appointed Chief Appellate Immigration Judge.
