Background
The Honorable Immigration Judge A. Ashley Tabaddor earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Before her appointment to the bench in November 2005, she served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, a trial attorney with the Justice Department's Civil Division in Washington, D.C., and a law clerk and attorney advisor for the immigration court and the Chief Immigration Judge. As an immigration judge in Los Angeles she presided over detained, non-detained, juvenile, and mental competency cases, and from 2017 she served as president of the National Association of Immigration Judges before leaving the bench in 2021 to become Chief Counsel at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. She has also served as an adjunct professor at George Washington University Law School and the UCLA School of Law.
