Appellate Immigration Judge, Board of Immigration Appeals
Attorney General Pamela Bondi appointed Renae M. Hansell as an Appellate Immigration Judge in January 2026. Judge Hansell earned a Bachelor of Science in 2000 from Armstrong Atlantic State University and a Juris Doctor in 2003 from Georgia State University College of Law. From April 2020 to January 2026, she served as an Assistant Chief Immigration Judge at the Memphis Immigration Court and Louisville Hearing Location. During her tenure, she also served as an Acting Assistant Chief Immigration Judge at the Baltimore, Cleveland and Detroit Immigration Courts. From 2018 to 2020, she served as an Immigration Judge at the Memphis Immigration Court. From 2003 to 2018, she served in various roles at the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security in Atlanta and Memphis including Deputy Chief Counsel, Senior Attorney, Assistant Chief Counsel, and Law Clerk. Judge Hansell is a member of the State Bar of Georgia.
