TPS is a temporary benefit for people from countries that the government has designated as unsafe because of war or disaster. TPS provides protection from deportation and a work permit, but it does not lead to a green card or any other permanent status.

Since 2025, the government has been ending TPS for one country after another, including countries with very large TPS populations. In June 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that courts have almost no power to review these terminations. The remaining country designations are set to expire unless they are renewed, and renewals are not expected.
When your country's TPS ends, you lose your protection from deportation and your work permit on the timeline the government announces. Do not assume your TPS will be extended the way it was in past years.
