Background

The Honorable Immigration Judge Matthew D. “Matt” Pember was appointed as an immigration judge to begin hearing cases in July 2026. Judge Pember earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in 1996 from the College of Idaho and a Juris Doctor in 2004 from the University of Idaho College of Law. From July 2025 to July 2026, he was the interim manager/felony attorney for the Idaho State Public Defender – Jerome office. He has served as a prosecuting attorney for most of his career, including being the elected prosecutor of Gooding County, Idaho. He has also served as an attorney advisor for the Department of the Navy and the Small Business Administration. Judge Pember is a member of the Idaho State Bar.
