The Honorable Immigration Judge James V. Ingold was appointed as an immigration judge to begin hearing cases in July 2026. Judge Ingold earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1986 from Duke University and a Juris Doctor in 1990 from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary. From December 2024 to January 2026, he served as panel clerk at the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation in Washington, D.C. From June 2009 to December 2024, he served as chief deputy clerk at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. From October 2002 to June 2009, he served as special counsel and senior assistant attorney general at the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, and in Fairfax, Virginia. From October 1993 to October 2002, he was in private practice at the law firm of Chadwick, Washington, Moriarty, Elmore & Bunn PC in Fairfax, Virginia. From August 1992 to May 1993, he was in private practice at the law firm of Katz & Stone in Tysons Corner, Virginia. From October 1990 to August 1992, he was in private practice at the law firm of Daniel Vaughan in Danville, Virginia. Judge Ingold is a member of the Virginia State Bar.
