For years, people in F, J and I status were admitted for “duration of status” — you could stay as long as you kept up your program. That ends. DHS is replacing it with a fixed admission period, which means an end date on your record and a formal extension request if you need longer. Changing schools, changing programs, or travelling may all be affected.
