Days after Shahid's civil-rights complaint became public, ICE removed Bruce Norum from his supervisory detention and deportation role while the matter was investigated. Shahid welcomed the agency's swift interim action and said he would cooperate with the Department of Justice and internal investigators.
The response showed that a complaint by a Montana immigration lawyer could produce immediate accountability inside a federal enforcement agency. The larger question - whether bias had affected prior detention and removal decisions - remained unresolved.
