The Huffington Post reports that DREAM Act supporters were preparing to hold Democrats accountable in the 2012 election. Shahid explains that Montana advocates wanted Senator Jon Tester to change course and, at minimum, understand that using immigration as a campaign issue would carry a political cost among supporters he otherwise expected to retain.

The article placed Montana within a national movement of immigrant and Latino activists who were no longer willing to be treated as automatic Democratic voters after the DREAM Act failed and deportations continued at record levels.
